Whitening

In-practice whitening in a single session

A gel applied at the practice lightens the teeth by several shades; the result varies with each person’s enamel.

Teeth darken with age, with coffee and tea, and with smoking. Whitening lightens both surface and internal discolouration chemically — it removes no tooth structure.

Before starting we protect the gums and record the current shade, so the result can be compared objectively. In-clinic whitening is completed in a single session.

Fillings, crowns and veneers do not lighten. If you have restorations at the front, the order and target shade are planned from the outset. Whitening is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Who is it for?

  • Staining from coffee, tea or smoking
  • Natural darkening that comes with age
  • Patients with no fillings or crowns on their front teeth

How the treatment works

  1. 01

    Shade recording

The starting shade is recorded so the result can be compared objectively.

  2. 02

    Gum protection

The gums are covered with a protective barrier so the gel cannot irritate them.

  3. 03

    Application

The whitening gel is applied in several short cycles, depending on the system used.

After your treatment

Avoid coffee, tea, red wine and smoking for 48 hours — enamel is most open to re-staining in that window.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it last?

Typically one to three years, depending on diet and smoking. A home maintenance protocol extends it.

Will my teeth become sensitive?

Temporary sensitivity is possible and usually settles within 24-48 hours. If you have a history of sensitivity we apply a protective treatment beforehand.

Do crowns and fillings whiten too?

No. Restorations keep their colour. If you have crowns or fillings at the front, replacing them after whitening can be planned.
